Xiamen Port has a port handling capacity of 100 million tons per year

By 30th of November, 2009,  Xiamen Port has handled 101 million tons of cargo and become the first ‘100 million ton port’ in the Economic Zone of Haixi (West side of the Taiwan Strait).

According to the Xiamen Port Authority, the port will further boost the construction of deep water channels and deep water berths in the next step.

By the end of 2010, Xiamen Port is expected to offer 107 berths, including 57 which can handle vessels of 10,000 tons. It has set a goal of notching up 8.37 million TEU containers next year.

The Xiamen government plans to establish a series of preferential policies to encourage and attract enterprises of central and west regions to export goods from Xiamen Port.

In addition, the port will strive to develop major bulks distribution. With the strategy of “transporting grain and coal from north to south”, it will be developed into the grain reserve base and large-scale coal transit base in the southeast coastal area.
