Pompidou Centre, a luxury department store from Hong Kong will open in Xiamen on Dec. 7.

Unlike other high-end businesses which usually choose the island as their base, the store will be located in the outlying district of Tong’an.

“With the rapid development of the outer districts of Xiamen, the gaps and distance between the external regions and centerpiece of Xiamen Island is shorter and shorter,” said a person with the Pompidou Centre, “That’s why we choose Tong’an District as our location.”

With a total investment of 20 million yuan, the first floor will be a department store selling jewelry, furniture, clothing and other high-quality goods, and a French restaurant will be opened on the second floor.

Pompidou Centre is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Kong-based Dr. Mall Co., Ltd., a company focusing on the planning and management of shopping malls.
