5 marathon champions to light cauldron for 2010 Xiamen Marathon

The year 2010 is a landmark in the history of the classical marathon race since it will be 2,500 years after the Battle of Marathon, the cause for this race to be born.

 

In order to commemorate the 2500th anniversary of the marathon race, Xiamen government will hold a torch-lighting ceremony for the 2010 Xiamen International Marathon on 2nd Jan.

 

During the ceremony, five female marathon champions will light the cauldron, including the marathon winner of the Berlin World Championships Bai Xue, Xiamen International Marathon Triple Crown winner Zhou Chunxiu, 2006 Xiamen International Marathon winner Sun Weiwei, 2007 Xiamen International Marathon winner Zhu Xiaolin, 2009 Xiamen International Marathon winner Chen Rong.

 

In addition, the 2nd International Forum of Mayors of Marathon Host Cities will be held at the Xiamen International Convention Centre on 2nd Jan. 2010.

 

The forum, co-organized by the Xiamen Municipal Government and Chinese Athletic Association, aims to exchange experience on hosting the race and discuss influences of the race over the host cities.

 

The guests invited for this forum include mayors of marathon host cities, officials of the organizing committee, officials of IAAF, and delegates of organizing committee of world-renowned marathon races.
