Fujian accelerates wireless city construction

Up to CNY 3.2 billion will be invested in wireless city construction in Fujian Province, southeast China this year, and 10,000 cell towers and 20,000 access points will be built in the province.
 
The province will focus on six application projects in 2010. In detail, it will boost basic applications of the Internet of things, mobile e-commerce, community informationization, enterprise informationization platform, and other pubic informationization platforms. The province will pump CNY 1.05 billion to establish 2,000 informationization communities in 2010.
 
The province paid much effort to the wireless city construction in recent years. It injected CNY 10 billion into this sector in the first eleven months of 2009, luring wireless broadband users of around 300,000. China Telecom Corporation Ltd. (NYSE: CHA, SEHK: 0728) newly built more than 7,000 access points and 4,500 cell stations in the period. And the Fujian branch under China Mobile Ltd. (SEHK: 0941, NYSE: CHL) constructed 1,753 cell towers and 17,100 carrier frequencies during the period, involving an investment of about CNY 5 billion.
