More Xiamen residents are expected to travel to Wenzhou for sightseeing as the Fuzhou-Xiamen high speed railway is to shorten the journey time from Xiamen to Wenzhou to 3 hours, according to Xiamen Tourism Bureau.

Recently, Wenzhou Tourism Department has invited some Xiamen travel agencies to Wenzhou for developing new tourist routes.

"Wenzhou is rich in tourism resources and has close relations with Southern Fujian. 500, 000 Wenzhou residents speak Minnan dialect and some old buildings in Wenzhou are of Minnan architectural feature. Upon the opening of high speed railway, some tourist sites in Wenzhou such as Yandang Mountain and Nanxi River will become hot spots." said Hu Nianwang, the person in charge of Wenzhou Tourism Bureau.

At present, it takes about 8 hours from Xiamen to Wenzhou by bus, and for most Xiamen residents, they prefer to travel to Shanghai or Huangzhou by direct flights just because it is more convenient. Upon the opening of the high speed railway, the 3-hour journey time will stimulate Xiamen tourists' enthusiasm to Wenzhou.

"It is a good opportunity for tourism development of Wenzhou. We will cooperate with Xiamen travel agencies to attract tourists from Xiamen and Taiwan as well." Mr.Hu added.

"We have designed some tourist routes from Xiamen to Wenzhou by bullet train, which will be launched after Spring Festival." said Hong Huafeng, vice-general manager of a Wenzhou travel agency.

Wenzhou is a major city in southeastern Zhejiang province of China. It borders Lishui to the west, Taizhou to the north, and looks out to the East China Sea on its eastern coast.

Wenzhou is known for its emigrants who leave their native land for Europe and the United States, with a reputation for being enterprising natives who start restaurants, retail and wholesale businesses in their adopted countries.
