The BRT network will be completely formed by the end of this year

Xiamen Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is expected to become the most important means of transportation when it is fully completed by the end of this year, according to the Xiamen transportation department.

The department says the BRT network will be completely formed by the end of this year. By linking Tong’an New City, Jimei Guankou Industry Zone and the Xiamen new railway station with BRT line 1 and line 2, the BRT network is expected to help to ease traffic congestion in Xiamen to the maximum extent.

At present, there are 38 public transportation lines running from the island to the outside districts and 21 lines running just in the outside districts, which basically connect with 44 countryside passenger routes.

The department also plans to open up more passenger routes and bus stations in the countryside.

An investigation of passenger flow and citizen requirement is now under way, and the redesign of the public transport network will be based on this investigation.
