SINGAPORE, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- Singapore will be making sports history tomorrow when it holds the inaugural two-day extreme sports competition at the new skate park at East Coast here.

The S million Xtreme SkatePark @ East Coast will be launched by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Saturday.

To mark the occasion, the skate park will be hosting the inaugural Singapore Extreme Championship in Aggressive In-line Skating, BMX Freestyling and Skateboarding.

About 80 participants from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Philippines and Brunei will compete in the championship.

"It is the first time such an extreme sports competition is being held in Singapore," said a joint statement by National Parks Board, the National Youth Council and the Community Development, Youth and Sports Ministry which developed the skate park project.

It is also the first and only skate park in Singapore of world class competition standards, it added.
