I was there again two weeks ago with few friends who never been there. They really liked it. I hope this restaurant will always be in Xiamen cuz all the dishes taste so good!!!
Top 3 restaurants in Xiamen!!! I think I will miss this place even when I leave! I love the chickpea marsala, garlic naan, yellow curry white fish, and the red curry pork(or beef)! We usually get 4-5 dishes (have leftovers) and its around 210rmb without alcohol! Excellent English speaking staff.. A must if you're in Xiamen!
Easily one of the best restaurants in Xiamen. If you haven't gone yet, you need to check it out immediately. Great service, great food, and a personable owner who cares about his product and his customers really sets this place apart from most of the other restaurants here.
Great place, food and atmosphere. Been going here awhile and always loved it. not just good indian food for china but good indian food anywhere. it isn't cheap but for this type of quality it wouldn't be. good selection of wines too.
After months of trying to get my wife to come and try it and being constantly told that she didn't like indian food, this place has finally convinced her she was wrong. we will be coming in regularly from now on!
Great place hahahahahahahhahaha
I heard a lot about Indiano jhon is good restaurant. but i have really bad experience when i visited at Indiano jhon restaurant with my honorable foreign professor guest. the owner of the restaurant mr. jhon misbehaved after asking the questions about the price of roti/nan/bread. He has really no sense how to treat his customers and he don't know how to give a respect to his customers. After his behaved we left his restaurant and took our dinner at Marhaba. After getting this experience from now i m sure he is not offering the halal food for Muslim. so in future i would like to suggest all of you to visit at sham, troy and marhaba restaurant although their price is high but they know how to give respect to their customers.
Always two sides to a story and this sounds bogus to me buddy.... Only great reviews of Johns every time I have been there. Get lost!
its not bogus robert...dont be spokes men of indiano johns ..if customer will not get respect how can he will visit again..it really sucks
and i think if person use get lost for other person actually his own mind is lost
i wonder how and what things going-on in mind during saying or supporting the other group/friend (for the person who used again rude words to the complaints). as i know those complaints for so long years being descent and honest persons, it is hard to believe he came out all this complains out of no where or as personal attacks, rather i can believe it is reality. Above all a costumers never ever said to be get lost or dont come here if you are poor or if you are like this or like that..., it is really humiliating. i appreciate them leaving the your place in peace and find another suitable and appropriate place to be served!
redi your answer doesn't make sense and since you are reviewing this the same day you signed up to WOX I doubt you are who you are! Thanks friend of YK for the extra muscle but your post sucks!
food is really good but little expensive..liked chicken biryani(rice) and chana and chicken curry.
My last experience at this restaurant was very disappointing. Previous to this I was a regular customer (I would eat there every week).
Indiano John asked me to try some new fish he is considering serving. (I didn't order this fish, he just brought a little bit of it to my table to sample).
I then see he charged me RMB 50 for this.
One of the reasons I go to foreign restaurants to get avoid bad service/being scammed/etc.
I'll never eat here again.
Whoa, that's sneaky as hell! I'll probably not go here again!
Dear Steve, In order to verify what you are saying is true, please give details on date n bill amount. If it matches, you will be entitled for a reimbursement of your entire bill, plus a personal apology from me, in case if it was a misunderstanding, as I would not deliberately do something like that. Cheers!
Indiano John -The Real Deal.
Here you got my personal contact details....
Can't believe John would do that on purpose. He's a great guy. A mistake by the Chinese staff? Did you say something to John when you saw the bill? If you didn't it's your own fault.
If you like Indian food that's a great place, also great variety of good wine.
John's restaurant is as much an essential and beneficial part of Xiamen as John is. Great food and John will always make you feel at home.
Nice food and good service, but a little bit expensive. Definitely worth going
It is very authentic Indian food according to my Indian friend. But personally I still prefer light food. Have been there twice, always have to drink lots of water while eating.
Tried it once. I really like the food, and the service was great. The manager/owner was very friendly, and my friends and I had a great time there.
I just haven't had the opportunity to go there again in the past few months.
But I definitely recommend it to people who like Indian food.
Wow! Now after renovation it became a great and nice place to stay!
Easily one of the best restaurants in Xiamen. John is awesome and his restaurant rocks!
i also thought when went there first time that its good restaurant though expensive but what happen with my friend i will never will go again..if someone behave badly with customers like this then who will go even if food is so good
They store some really good wine and the owner writes:Life is too short for bad wine,I say:life is too short for GREAT wine!
One of my favorites in Xiamen. Good food and good service.
Being French I am a picky eater. I've been to this place on a regular basis for the past four years and everytime it has been an amazing experience with a fantastic blend of Indian culinary flavors, food was tasty, portions overall were generous and the servers very very attentive. The atmosphere of the newly decorated dining room is very pleasant.
Not cheap. If you're looking for value in your eating, maybe in China Indian isn't the cuisine for you. Yes, there's no competition for this restaurant in the Xiamen market. But in the handful of Chinese cities where you can even find decent Indian food, you won't really be paying much less. That said, if the restaurant was cheaper I'd be there literally every week, or multiple times a week, where I currently can't afford to. With that out of the way, how's the food?
Well, I don't have the luxury of a before and after comparison of taste or of service, but what I ate was delicious. The tikka masala I had on both visits was great and stacked up with any I've had back in England. Beef vindaloo and Lamb rogan Josh also authentic and great flavours. Waiters happily accepted, and delivered, requests of extra spiciness on both visits. Naan bread totally fine, if thinner than those found in UK curry houses. Samosas not spicy enough for my liking, although I didn't request them extra hot, but texture and coating authentic.
Service was on both occasions exemplary, actually. Like when one of the bowls of complementary dips is empty a new one is offered when it's spotted. Small things. But definitely not feeling the reports of bad service here. There are loads of waitresses on hand. Environment is really nice too. Some gentle interpretations of favourite 80s power ballads playing in the background!
Probably would've given this place a 4 based on price alone, because food and service are great, but when I visited on my birthday and was basking in a post-curry glow a waiter mistakenly put some fresh plates on our table. John, the owner who was there on both occasions I visited, spotted this and corrected it before giving us some desserts on the house. Soon after, while paying, a lady who was later revealed to be his wife saw me peering over the bannister at the downstairs with its funky under-floor wine bottle decoration and struck up a conversation, asking how the night had been and offering to give us a tour. Pretty good if you ask me.
Nice name - average food. Used to be much nicer there. Good Xiamen offers better choices.
