It would be very challenging for an investor to change the mind-set of the staff in a country with hundreds or thousand years of history. However, it would be beneficial to the top management to make effort to truly understand the cultural aspects and the way of doing business in the country. Certain practices such as, the local business people would always come late in a business meeting.

It is advisable to set the stage right from the start by having a company handbook. It is to manage the expectation of your staff. All new employees would have to go through a proper orientation programme lead by the senior management staff. It is a platform for the new employees to ask any questions to clear their doubts.

After the orientation, your staff would be attending some in-house training programme. In the training programme, you would probably introduce the company’s shared values to re-enforce the company cultures. In some companies, they have “morning sharing” on matters related to the companies’ cultures and practices.
