The news that a man in southeast China’s Fujian province caught a giant rat has aroused heated discussion among readers and netizens.
However, the giant rat is more likely to be a coypu rather than a bamboo rat or any other rat species. The controversy arouses when Fuzhou forestry unit initially identified it to be a Bamboo rat, which was original reported by Strait News, a Fuzhou-based newspaper.

A newly built primary school worth of 15 million yuan ($ 2.2 million) may have to be demolished because it stands in the way of a planned business district, cnr.cn reported today.
The primary school in Taijiang district of Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian province, has a 100 years history, but was just rebuilt, the report said.
The students in the school are said to have transferred to other schools in the district.
All students and parents have been informed about the move.

According to Fuzhou Sports Bureau, the 3rd Fuzhou Half Marathon is going to be held in Fuzhou on 6th March 2010.
The half marathon is hosted by Fuzhou Sports Bureau and will be undertaken by Fuzhou Chao Yue Long-distance Running Club.
The Fuzhou Sports Bureau said that they would upgrade the half marathon this year, and the number of participants this year was expected to increase to over 5000 compared to last year's 800.

Fuzhou Airport has announced that Shenzhen Airlines is going to launch a new roundtrip international route from Fuzhou to Tokyo.
From April 6, 2010, there will be three flights each week flying between Fuzhou and Tokyo: departing on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 08:20 Beijing time and 14:00 Tokyo time.

Local authorities in Fuzhou, China, said five children were killed Thursday morning in the collapse of an outdoor wall at a primary school collapsed.
A spokesman with the publicity department of the Fuzhou city committee of the Communist Party of China told Xinhua four of the children died at the scene of the Jinsha Central Primary School wall collapse.
