KFC has created a Bluetooth mat with a built-in keyboard so that you can text and eat at the same time

You're halfway through a bucket of extra crispy chicken, and disaster strikes.

Suddenly a new Facebook post appears that you just have to comment on, but your fingers are full of grease and you have no idea what to do.

Now, KFC has come up with a solution to prevent this ever happening; a Bluetooth-powered tray mat with a built-in keyboard.

Dubbed the 'Tray Typer', the keyboard is 4mm thick and so light and flexible that it can be folded over.
It replaces the paper mats usually placed in trays, is water-resistant and can be recharged via a UBS port.

The idea behind it is that the tray syncs up to your smartphone using Bluetooth.

This then allows you to tap messages mid-meal while keeping your phone screen grease-free.

The technology is also reusable — after being wiped down and charged.

Working with advertising agency Serviceplan, KFC gave out free Tray Typers in the opening weeks of several new restaurant launches in Germany.

'Our fans loved it,' the fried chicken franchise said. 'Geolocated social media discussions skyrocketed.'
According to Serviceplan, the Tray Typers have been so popular that every single one during the promotion was taken home.

This isn't the first time that KFC has turned to technology to impress its customers.

In September, KFC Japan created a custom fried chicken keyboard and mouse and a chicken drumstick USB to celebrate its 30th year in the country.

There are currently no plans to roll out the Tray Typer in other countries.
