On Feb. 23, 40 BRT drivers and 30 maintenance personnel participated in a skill training, gearing up for the running of the 18-metre-long articulated BRT buses, which has become a synonym for more comfort, advance and capacity.

At the Xiamen No.1 Port BRT Terminal, two engineers from Xiamen King Long United Automotive Industry instructed the drivers inside a BRT bus on Feb. 23. Over 70 drivers and maintenance personnel are expected to complete the training recently.

The articulated BRT bus will be more user-friendly with a memory function, and take daily records of the drivers' operations on the buses. Afterwards, the control system will recall the records of the best and least gas-guzzling drivers, according to Mr. Lai Jianjun, a training specialist from German Voith Group East Asia.

At present, the existing BRT bus is 12-metre-long, carrying about 70 passengers each time.

In order to improve the traffic during rush hours, Xiamen will put the first batch of 15 18-metre-long articulated BRT buses into use. These vehicles are manufactured by Xiamen King Long.

Compared with the current BRT bus, the 18-metre-long BRT bus has one more carriage, with a capacity of carrying over 160 passengers, more than twice that of the current BRT bus.
