On 21st December, a ground breaking ceremony was held for the Shangri-La Hotel at the Xiamen Guanyinshan International Business Operation Centre, which is scheduled to be completed and open for business by 2014, reports Xiamen Economic Daily.

 

As one of the key projects of the 30th anniversary of the Xiamen Special Economic Zone, the Shangri-La Xiamen Hotel will be 140 meters high and have a total construction area of ‌‌more than 110,000 square meters.

 

According to the planning, there will be more than 600 hotel rooms and suites, a 2,400 square meter banquet hall and a collection of business, recreational and dining facilities. This is the second Shangri-La Hotel in Fujian Province after the Shangri-La Hotel, Fuzhou.

The Shangri-La story began in 1971 with its first deluxe hotel in Singapore. Today, there are 72 hotels and resorts throughout Asia Pacific, North America, the Middle East, and Europe, representing a rooms inventory of over 30,000.
