Xiamen received a total of 1.54 million visitors during the 2014 National Day holiday

Statistics released have shown that Xiamen received a total of 1.54 million visitors during the National Day holiday, down 5.9 percent year-on-year, and generated tourism revenue of 1.755 billion Yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 2.79 percent.

Of the 1.54 million tourists, 416,200 stayed overnight in Xiamen during the Golden Week, accounting for 27.02% of the total number. The amount of tourists who travelled to Xiamen by train reached 478,200, an increase of 31.8% over last year.

According to reports, the average room rate of hotels in Xiamen stood at 51.82% during the Golden Week, a decrease of 13.01% compared with last year.

With more people seeking leisure time in natural environments with better air and water and far away from the hustle and bustle of cities, many tourists are exploring more non-traditional scenic spots. Therefore, traditional tourist destinations in Xiamen saw decreasing visitor numbers and ticket revenue. However, tourist attractions on the mainland districts in Xiamen were crowded with excited tourists, especially local residents and visitors from surrounding provinces.

Xiamen’s supervisory Bureau of Tourism Quality received a total of 102 tourist complaints during this year’s National Day holiday, a 9% decline over last year.
