Fuzhou Airlines, the first to be based in Fuzhou city, capital of Fujian province, is slated to open its first intercontinental flight to New York in the U.S. at the end of November.

The flight – set for twice a week – will make use of a large passenger plane – a Boeing B777-300ER, which will stop in Shanghai en route, sources from the airport said.

There are 1.8 million Chinese descendants from Fuzhou living in the U.S.; and the number of U.S.-bound passengers who depart from Fuzhou is approximately 250 per day.

Currently, passengers have to transfer flights in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Guangzhou or Beijing if they want to fly from Fuzhou to New York. The newly opened flight will greatly save time and trouble.

According to the news, Fuzhou Airport opened 24 new domestic routes in 2013 and 11 in 2014. In the next phase, Fuzhou will launch more domestic routes with 22 airline companies taking part, covering more cities in China.

Fuzhou Airlines was jointly set up by Hainan Airlines, Fuzhou State Asset Investment Holding Co, Century Golden Resources Group and Ningbo Ruitong Network Technology.
