Xiamen to develop round-the-island cruise tours with an investment of RMB 4 billion

The Xiamen Tourism Bureau plans to invest four billion yuan on a cruise industry development project which is scheduled be implemented step-by-step in three phases.

The first phase, which is expected to be implemented within two years, involves an investment of 300 million yuan to build two luxury sightseeing cruise ships -- Lujiang River Paradise and Lujiang River Express. The two ships will be used to operate the planned Lujiang River Tour and Round-the-island Tour that will feature performances, banquets and sightseeing.

The second phase is expected to be implemented within three to five years. It involves an investment of 800 million yuan to build two luxury short-sea cruise ships which will be used to run overnight cruise tours on Fujian's coast as well as to Kinmen and Penghu in the Taiwan Strait.

The third phase, involving an investment of 800 million yuan, is expected to be launched in five to ten years. Two ocean cruise liners will be built to run routes from Xiamen to East Asia and Southeast Asia.

Xiamen will also allocate over 200 million yuan each year from 2015 to 2018 to support local shipping companies, shipbuilders, and Xiamen port operators to set up a local cruise company and develop cruise routes.

Xiamen is currently upgrading its two cruise berths at the cruise terminal to accommodate cruise ships as large as 220,000 tons.
