Besides famous Gulangyu Island, the tourist attractions outside Xiamen Island are charming as well. Here are four interesting places for you to discover in this coastal city in its outlying districts.
Located at the west of Kengnei Village in Guankou Town of Xiamen Jimei District, Shuanglongtan Eco-Sports Resort is the city’s only one sports scenic area integrating functions of accommodation, tourism, leisure and recreation, covering an area of 76.8 hectares.
Located at Dongfu Town in Xiamen Haicang District, Tianzhu Mountain Forest Park, dubbed as "Xiamen’s Backyard", is an offshore forest park integrating functions of tourism and sightseeing, leisure, sports, agricultural science and religious culture, covering an area of 30.813 suqare kilometres.
Located at the border of Lianhua Town in Xiamen Tong’an District and Anxi County in Quanzhou, Wild Valley Eco-park enjoys high reputation as "Fujian’s Green Lung" and "Fujian’s Jiuzhai Valley" for its original natural landscape and jade waterfall.
Jimei is the hometown of Mr. Tan Kah-Kee, a famous overseas Chinese leader who devoted himself wholly to education. In this small hamlet, Mr. Tan built 12 different kinds of schools including Xiamen University, a science center, gymnasium, library, hospital, and a navigation club. These facilities changed Jimei from a rural village into a sizeable town whose total student population of more than 100,000 exceeds that of the local residents. All of Mr. Tan's buildings are constructed in his unique blend of Western and Chinese architecture, using red brick, white stone, and glazed tiles. Owing to the presence of these science halls, libraries and hospitals, the town was called "Jimei School Village" - a name renowned at home as well as abroad.
