First Nanyang Art and Food Festival

Jointly organized by the Philippine Consulate-General in Xiamen, Singapore Consulate-General in Xiamen and Royal Thai Consulate-General in Xiamen.

This is the first time that the 3 Consul-Generals work hand in hand to bring about a significant event for Xiamen people. A large number of the Philippines, Singapore and Thai ancestors from Fujian went to Nanyang, an old term for Southeast Asian countries, to seek better lives especially at the end of last century. Deep special ties thus exist between Fujian and the 3 respective countries.

The festival is being held with the purpose of introducing to Xiamen the arts, culture and cuisine of the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand and consequently foster friendship and cooperation between Xiamen and the participating Southeast Asia countries.

This cultural event consists of two parts:

1) The art portion is called "The Colorful Arts of Nanyang" and will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the 1st floor of Xiamen Culture

2)Art Centre while the food portion is called "Nanyang Food Festival" and will be from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the covered walk of SM Xiamen.

Artists from the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand will have their works on display at the Xiamen Cultural and Art Centre, and some of them will demonstrate their artistic skills on the spot. The food festival includes activities such as cooking demonstration, some free samplings, sale of food and food products at promotional prices.

In addition, there will be cultural performances from the 3 countries for all 3 days from 3:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. at Xiamen Culture and Art Centre and 4:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m. at SM (full performance).
