Japanese restaurants and Japanese products were one of the first foreign goods to enter China when China opened its door to the foreign trade in the 80s. This was the time when China SEZ policy took to the centre stage, propelling Xiamen into one of the China centres in international trades and investments. And its globalized economy.

Japanese cuisine is one of the most refined in the world. Their dishes are simple, plain and light, yet they are well prepared, classy, refined and tasty.

Japanese restaurants are one of the first few foreign restaurants that have set their foot in Xiamen restaurant and hospitality industry, nestling first among some of the top hotels in the city.

In the 80s, most of the Japanese restaurants in Xiamen were attached to some 4 to 5 stars hotels. Shogun Japanese Restaurant at Marco Polo Hotel near Yuandang Lake, Goza Japanese Restaurant at Mandarin Hotel in Huli and Miyabi Japanese Restaurant at Xiamen Airlines' Jinyan Hotel are some to name a few.

Being one of the Asian cuisines, the Japanese dishes were easily accepted by the Chinese palate. Not only the expats and foreign visitors regulated the restaurants, the local were just as keen. Very quickly, stand-alone Japanese Restaurants were being open in good numbers in many parts of Xiamen metropolis.

Japanese cuisine is one of the most refined in the world. Their dishes are simple, plain and light, yet they are well prepared, classy, refined and tasty. The secret of Japanese cuisine is its mastership in preparation, its freshness and zen presentation. Food is usually served with its original taste. The art is how these ingredients are put together without losing their compliments and yet enhance the food original taste. Unless Indian food, sauces are often NOT used to dull the original taste of the food.

Today, there are Japanese restaurants in every corner of Xiamen CBD. Plenty can be found in top hotels, foreign visitors, tourists and expats populated areas. In Hubinbei Lu, near and in Marco Polo Hotel, there are some top Japanese restaurants,Tokyoto and Shogun are among the few. Along Hexiangxi Lu, there are many stand-alone Japanese Restaurants, such as Momotaro Japanese Restaurant and Songhe Japanese Restaurant.

There are various traditional Japanese and introduced Japanized noodle dishes in Miyabi. Many of them enjoy a very high popularity among the local Japanese expats in Xiamen
Among the Japanese restaurants in Xiamen, Miyabi Japanese Restaurant on the 3rd floor of Xiamen Airlines' Jinyan Hotel at 99 South Hubin Road is one of the most authentic and impressive.

Impressive is the first feeling that would cross most customers’ mind when they meet Mr Shimada. He is a very welcoming host with tonnes of humour. All his staff is very well trained and very attentive to details, like Mr. Shimada. He would pick the best dishes for you if you are short of an idea what you really want. you just have to sit back and enjoy your dinner.

Other than huge variety of Japanese dishes, the restaurant has also had good selection of Japanese beers and Japanese spirits such as Saki and other high potent alcohols.

Sushi and sashimi both are raw fish and seafood with various spices. Impeccably fresh fish is the secret to wonderful sashimi and sushi, served with wasabi and soya sauce. Miyabi loves of beauty and simplicity turns slices and chunks of raw fish into miniature works of art. Fish sliced so thin that it’s transparent may be arranged on a platter in a delicate fan that alternates pink-fleshed salmon with paler slices of fish. Sushi is typically arranged to best display the colours and textures to their best advantage, turning the platter and plate into palettes for the artistry of the Miyabi chef.

Soba noodles are prepared with special touch. There are made of buckwheat and wheat flour specially selected by Mr. Shimada. Udon noodles are another popular noodles dish. Udon, like soba can be served either hot or cold and with various toppings at Miyabi.

Other dishes in the range of Yakitori, Tonkatsu, Yudofu, Tsukemono etc are served upon special recommandation by Mr. Shimada. Others available are baked eel Nagasaki style, octopus slices with lemon juice, mackerel fish, and stewed fish and vegetables.
