Even in a gastronomic city as venerable as Xiamen, the fashionable and expat-friendly Binbei area stands out for its awesome restaurants.

Located next to the scenic Yundang Lake in downtown Xiamen and adjacent to the Municipal Government and Foreign Investment Zone, the Binbei area is home to a large proportion of the city's expatriate population as well as an ever-growing collection of great restaurants catering to them.

Here's a sampling of the best restaurants in the Binbei area.

Beecomb 滨北101

Having opened its doors on 21st March this year, the fusion restaurant BeeComb is fast becoming a favorite of local foodies thanks to its innovative cooking concepts.

The celebrated head chef from Macau has created an array of culinary delights by combining excellent elements of various culinary traditions. Each dish is a small piece of art showcasing the chef’s appreciation and flair for simple but elegant food. The menu will be updated regularly with choice ingredients chosen at their peak seasons.

A great and diverse menu of Filipino dishes, a laid-back and welcoming atmosphere and a prime location in the Binbei area make this a neighbourhood favourite.

The tempting menu features Filipino dishes including Chicken Adobo (sticky chicken), Pork Sinigang (braised pork sour soup), Kare-kare (stewed oxtail) and Crispy Pata (deep fried pig trotter served with a soy-vinegar dip). They also offer steaks, sandwiches and pasta dishes for those who crave something western.

Just a few steps from the Pan Pacific Xiamen, Chao Fu Cheng is one of our favourite Dim Sum restaurants in the city. Whatever the mealtime, the place is always packed and there is a large queue of hungry people waiting outside, but its great food and excellent flavours more than merit the up-to 30 minute wait.

Over 100 Dim Sum items are available on the menu. Signature dishes include shrimp dumplings, rice rolls, turnip puddings and sticky rice and chicken in lotus leaf. And their Lotus Seed Bun, shaomai and chicken feet are also firm favourites among patrons.
