On the evening of September 29th, 2018, Xiamen's annual German food and beer festival officially opened at Conrad Xiamen's Pier 38 Restaurant. The festival will last a month, till October 31st.

Conrad Xiamen has invited the experienced German chef Mr. Markus Maria to guest cook at the festival. He will prepare delicious Bavarian food for guests throughout the event.

The German food and beer festival at Conrad Xiamen features authentic German food, 12 different types of German craft beer (Mut Krieger beer), and ample opportunities for meeting people from around the world.

Come and savor this feast of authentic German food and beer at Conrad Xiamen during China's National Day Holiday or any other time in October!

German chef
Chef Markus Maria, who hails from Munich, Germany, has 20 years of culinary experience. He has worked in numerous luxury hotels and starred restaurants throughout Europe and China.

German food
The food and beer festival at Conrad Xiamen features a much-anticipated main course: Crispy rind German roasted pork knuckle (or schweonshaxe) served with thick beer gravy, bread dumplings, bacon-and-cabbage salad, and sauerkraut.

Schweonshaxe is made with the lower part of a pig's hind leg, where the fat is thicker. In Germany, it is usually soaked or pre-cooked with caraway and garlic before baking, then served with mustard sauce and pepper. The pork skin is crispy and chewy but not dry after baking.

There are many kinds of sausages in Germany. Almost every region has its own type of sausage, with regional variations in size, color, and flavor. It is estimated that there are more than 1,500 kinds of German sausage, of which more than 780 are boiled sausages.

Conrad Xiamen's Pier 38 offers a rich German sausage platter, featuring Turingen sausage, Nuremberg sausage, pork sausage, frankfurters, and cheese sausage, with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes.

German craft beer
Germany is a true beer-loving nation that brews 20 categories of beer and 1,500 different types of beer, ranging from wheat beers, Pils or Pilsner, dark beers, Kolsch, and export beers, to non-alcoholic beer. German beers are known and loved around the world.

Although the north and south of Germany have different beer preferences, a wide variety of German beer is available almost everywhere throughout the country, in stores big and small.

Drinking German beer with German sausage or roasted pork knuckle is the most classic food-and-beer pairing. Conrad Xiamen's German food and beer festival offers 12 flavors of Mut Krieger beer to meet the needs of customers of different tastes.

Black forest cake

There are various versions of the origin story of this legendary German dessert. Some sources claim that it is not named after the Black Forest in Germany but a speciality liquor of that region, known as Schwarzwalder Kirsch (wasser). Other tales claim that the name of the cake was inspired by the traditional costume of the women of the Black Forest region. But regardless of the exact regional origin of this delicious cake, we know for certain that it comes from Germany.
