The Dicos restaurant at Changqing Road has been closed

The Dicos fast-food chain, owned by Ting Hsin International Group, recently closed another restaurant at Changqing Road in Xiamen, following the previous closure of its Malong restaurant in May.

Dicos is a second-tier fast-food chain in China. Dicos entered Xiamen in 2001 with its first restaurant located at Haitian Road, Huli District. Since then, Dicos opened another 3 restaurants at Wenyuan Road, Changqing Road, and Malong.

In 2004, Dicos set up an office in Xiamen which is mainly responsible for Fujian and northern Guangdong markets. It had planned to open at least 10 restaurants in Xiamen within 2 to 3 years.

Although Disco said they closed the restaurants for the “integration of internal resources”, many industry insiders believe that the intense competition of Xiamen’s fast-food industry is the main reason.

It is understood that there are more than 30 KFC restaurants and 15 McDonald’s restaurants in Xiamen. In addition, Wallace, a local fried chicken chain from Fuzhou, has caught up from behind, with more than 30 restaurants in Xiamen.

Apparently, Dicos has fallen behind its old adversaries in the competition, an industry insider said.
