This month (June 2014), WOX has chosen the Gulangyu Island to collect and write news and informational articles about, and provide useful information to help you plan future visits.

Covering a total area of 1.78 square kilometers, Gulangyu Island is located off the coast of Xiamen, a few minutes by ferry from downtown. It was a foreign enclave from the 1840s until the 1930s, and is now both a residential suburb and a major tourist area.
From the baroque building to the Gothic cathedral, from the Shanghai-style alley to the Fujian-style courtyard, Gulangyu is filled with different architectural styles. That's why it is often described as a showcase island of architecture, attracting architecture students from across the nation and the world every year to find their source of inspiration.

This month, an international football event will be held in the People’s Stadium of Gulangyu. A total of 12 teams from Xiamen and other cities will be invited to battle their way to victory on this historic islet.
Formerly known as “Amoy Cup”, the 2014 Gulangyu Cup International Football Tournament is set to kick off on the 21st of this month, in an effort to repeat and exceed the success and fun of the first and second events, which was made possible by the passion and skill of the local and expatriate football amateurs who took part.

Gulangyu People's Stadium
The People's Stadium in Gulangyu was built on 14th October, 1956, based on an old tennis court called Fan Zai Qiu Pu (番仔球埔), which was particularly used foreign residents on Gulangyu Island before 1949.
