The Yundang Street sub-district has jurisdiction over Marco Polo Xiamen Hotel, the Guanren residential community and Yundang Coffee Street, which is one of the most popular areas for expats in Xiamen.

Located by the picturesque Yundang Lake, the Guanren Community boasts beautiful scenery, numerous cafes, bars, and restaurants that offer exotic cuisines and drinks. This area is fast becoming a fashion icon in Xiamen with its unique international features.

In September this year, the Guanren Merchant Association was formed to better serve the community. The association now has 59 members. To keep the community facilities in top condition, about one million yuan has been invested to improve the facilities within the area including greening the streets and maintenance of the Yundang Lake area. In addition, a 3D guide map for the community was set up near the Bank of China building to facilitate ease of use.

In June, Angela Lehmann, an Australian national, and Mr. Wang Wanfa, a Taiwanese businessman, were appointed as Assistant Director of the Guanren Community, where there are currently 304 foreigners and 123 Taiwanese people living.

Angela Lehmann has been living in Xiamen for 12 years and works as an Associate Professor at the School of Public Affairs in Xiamen University. She said the Guanren community is like her second hometown. The people are nice and hospitable, and she hopes to help more people from overseas adapt to life in this beautiful coastal city and contribute to the future of Xiamen.

Mr. Wang Wanfa came to Xiamen from Taipei six years ago. He deals with certificate services for overseas people such as visas and temporary residential permits.

The Guanren community also organizes many expat-friendly activities including foreign wives’ forum, English corners and Chinese festival get-together for expats, according to Mrs. Gong Jie, director of the Yundang Sub-district.
