The Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-speed Railway is scheduled to begin operations on September 23rd, 2018.

The Hong Kong section of the high-speed railway has a length of 26 kilometers, starting from the West Kowloon Terminus/西九龙站, and extending to the boundary of Shenzhen and Hong Kong’s Lok Ma Chau.

The Hong Kong railway section will link up with the high-speed rail system in mainland China, which will shorten travel time between Xiamen and Hong Kong to about four hours.

At the time of the new railway's opening, 127 pairs of bullet trains will service the route, with 114 pairs running in Hong Kong and 13 pairs for cross-border services.

The new railway will improve transportation between Hong Kong and many mainland Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Shijiazhuang, Zhengzhou, Wuhan, Changsha, Hangzhou, Nanchang, Xiamen, Fuzhou, and Shantou, via the extended high-speed railway network.

Of the 13 pairs of cross-border bullet trains, three pairs will travel to and from Xiamen.

A one-stop border checkpoint is planned for the starting point of the Hong Kong section of the XRL at West Kowloon Station. The checkpoint will serve commuters traveling between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong.
